Real Madrid already has one foot in the quarter final stage of the UEFA Champions League after a deflected Cristiano Ronaldo strike and a fine Jese goal gave Real Madrid a 2-0 win over a resolute Roma side at Stadio Olimpico in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie on Wednesday
The Liga giants were disappointing for the majority of the first-half but clicked into gear to see off their Serie A opponents in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.

Ronaldo's goal is his 12th in 7 appearances in this season competition and his 89th overall which is a record in the tournament. Ronaldo's record away from home in the Champions League  speaks for itself: he has scored in 17 of his last 21 away games in the continental competition and has more goals on the road (44) in the tournament than anyone else (Messi is the next best with 35).

The other match of the night saw Wolfsburg beat AAA Gent at home by 3 goals to two.
