Lionel Messi continues to venture where no footballer has ever been before, and his fifth Ballon d'Or only pushes him further ahead of his rivals in the record books.
The Barcelona idol was honoured with an enormous banner after winning the award once more, as the Catalans prepared to take on Athletic in La Liga on Sunday.
Messi used the occasion to showcase all his five Ballon d'Or trophies to the Camp Nou faithful before firing the Catalan to victory over Athletic Bilbao.
Messi won the Ballon d'Or in four consecutive years between 2009 and 2012.
