Arsenal have made their first signing of the January transfer window with the capture of midfielder Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel.
The 23-year-old Egyptian, who has moved to Emirates Stadium for an undisclosed fee, could be available for Arsenal’s next Barclays Premier League contest, which is at Stoke City this Sunday.

Arsene Wenger confirmed the signing of Elneny after Wednesday night's 3-3 draw at Liverpool, a result which keeps Arsenal at the top of the table on goal difference.
"Elneny ... has joined us," Wenger said after the match. "We will see if he can qualify for Sunday."
Elneny has been with FC Basel for three years and in the first half of this season made 28 appearances for the Swiss club, scoring seven goals. He also played at the London Olympics in 2012, helping Egypt reach the quarter-finals.
"It is an indescribable feeling, I am really glad of course," he told Arsenal Player. "Arsenal is one of the world's greatest teams, and I am very keen to participate positively with my new team, God willing, and to give my best for the team and for myself."
He is set to become the ninth Egyptian to play in the BPL.
